2023 Trends in Home Remodeling and Design: Simplicity and Wellness

Since March 2020, when COVID-19 started, everybody has looked at priorities differently. Each homeowner spent more time with families inside the homes. Remote work became more popular. Cleaning clutter and organizing and prioritizing purchases became good habits.

From the kitchen to the bedroom and every space in between, refreshing the paint color, installing new floors, adding beautiful tiles, fixing construction issues, adding outside living space and adding additions became a priority to keep family members engaged, healthy and happy.

What were the critical changes in the planning and design?

Natural light is one aspect magnified in current and coming designs. There’s a renewed focus on maximizing natural light with big, bare windows, white, and reflective surfaces. Natural light can improve our sleep patterns, focus, and mood. Plus, it helps us produce vitamin D.

Another aspect was the simplicity of the design and remodeling. Simplicity is a design principle that suggests that designs should be as simple as possible, without sacrificing functionality or usability. This means that designers should strive to eliminate unnecessary elements from their designs, and focus on creating a clean, straightforward user experience.

What’s changed in every area of living space?

1. Kitchen

The kitchen is the heart of the home, and many homeowners are opting for larger kitchen islands to accommodate dining and entertaining directly in the kitchen rather than a formal dining room.

While white will continue to be a popular choice for kitchens in 2023, experts expect to see kitchens become more colorful in 2023. Homeowners are embracing warmer tones and bold pops of color rather than monochromatic, minimalism or white and gray farmhouse-style kitchens. Expect to see all-white cabinets switched out for warm, natural wood tones in both dark and light hues.

2. Outside Living

While it’s not quite summer yet, spring is getting closer. The flowers start blooming and we’re excited to start enjoying the outdoors again. Fortunately, it’s the perfect time to start thinking about how to elevate and use these spaces. Whether it's a significant remodeling, addition or landscaping change—it’s time to start fresh.

3. Basements

Families with kids expect to spend more time in the basements and there is a new trend for 2023 to create this space as the most welcoming space in the house. For kids, we build gaming rooms, movie theaters and inside pools. And for adults, bars, entertainment area, gym and more.

Technology in the basements is taking to the next level.
